METHOD ACTING

True creativity & Success comes from the unconscious—where impulse, emotion, and imagination live. Great acting is not controlled; it is released. If the actor is not surprised by their own work, the audience will not be moved.

Method acting places this unconscious intelligence at the centre of the process, turning technique into lived behaviour rather than performance. As Stanislavski understood, great acting is the ability to be private in public. This is the difference between showing emotion and living it—and it is the truth audiences recognise and remember.

PRAGUE INTENSIVE STUDIO WEEK

A unique opportunity to develop the empowering work of Method acting, while connecting your thoughts, impulses, and emotions to the English language. This intensive workshop provides the core dynamics to take away, practise, and begin expanding within your own work as an actor.

With over two and a four decades of dedicated work developing his Acting, Directing and over 25 years become this UK leading Method Teacher, Sam Rumbelow brings broad training where he began his training With the National youth theatre and The Guildhall School, of Music & Drama. He has a unique ability to unlock and develop an actor’s instrument. He is keen to share his work with you, so that your creativity and craft can open the door to your greater potential.

METHOD ACTING INTRODUCTION

(Online, 2-5 pm CET )
Focused entirely on you, these sessions teach Basic Relaxation and Sense Memory techniques, and introduce truthful approaches to text and character. They provide a strong foundation for the Method Intensive Studio Unit, a 4 full intensive days  that further develops your craft and skills.

Saturday – Intro Talk & Basic Relaxation

  • Intro Talk: Learn how Strasberg’s Method fits into the actor’s broader work. Understand your creative instrument and the muscles that require training and engagement.
  • Basic Relaxation: This foundational exercise helps you sit with your thoughts, impulses, and emotions. It prepares you to take creative risks in auditions, on stage, or on camera. No prior training is required—just bring yourself.

Monday – Thursday 9-5pm CET

  • Technique Each morning begins with two hours of Method Technique training, designed to deepen and expand your use of relaxation and Sense Memory. Through a progressive and practical approach, you will develop the tools needed to bring greater truth, depth, and vitality to your work on character and text. As the course progresses, the integration of text work and improvisation will increase, encouraging you to trust your thoughts, impulses, and emotional responses. This process helps cultivate spontaneity, authenticity, and a richer emotional life in performance, enabling you to create work that is both truthful and compelling.
  • Sense Memory  is a cornerstone of Method acting, allowing actors to connect deeply with their own experiences and emotional truths. By drawing upon personal sensory memories, you will strengthen your imagination, enhance emotional accessibility, and bring greater authenticity to your performances. This powerful technique enables you to create fully realised characters and emotionally resonant storytelling while maintaining a genuine connection to the work.
  • Scene Study Scene Study is an intensive exploration of character, narrative, and text, focusing on what truly makes a scene come alive. Rather than simply performing scripted material, you will learn to inhabit the given circumstances of the scene, creating truthful and dynamic relationships with both the text and your fellow actors. Through detailed analysis, rehearsal, and practical exploration, you will develop the ability to make bold, creative choices while remaining emotionally connected and responsive in the moment. This process fosters a deeper understanding of character and story, allowing you to bring originality, nuance, and authenticity to your performances. The goal is not only to strengthen your craft but also to inspire discoveries that surprise both you and your audience, resulting in work that is vibrant, engaging, and uniquely your own.

Outcome
By the end of these two days, you will have a clear understanding of Strasberg’s Method and its role in the actor’s craft. You’ll take home practical exercises in Basic Relaxation and Sense Memory, ready to build on in the whole weekend Studio Unit, which expands into improvisation and scene study.

Method Acting – Online/Studio: The Actor’s Instrument. Craft, Character, and Creative Process

From Technique to Studio
As you will start with both BASIC RELAXATION and a primary SENSE MEMORY EXERCISE, we will then build on this with text and improvisation over the week. This expands the use of the technique into a much more active, face-to-face interaction, acting not just from your head but also from your body, allowing your impulses, thoughts, and emotions to come into play as you explore text and narrative in a way that goes far beyond trying to impress with a performance. With this opening session of technique in place, the studio becomes a living lab where you expand your sense of how to work with text and the themes alive within it. From here, we move into SCENE STUDY, where we explore the journey from the actor to the character and how the actor works more from the unconscious to bring the script’s narrative and story to life.

Scene Work as Discovery
At the heart of studio scene work lies the essential task: understanding the character and their situation. Who is this person? What drives them? What do they want or need? What is happening in the relationship between the characters? These questions guide your exploration, anchored in the English text itself. The studio environment encourages greater freedom—more action, more choices, more risks. As you allow your instincts to lead, you develop a deeper relationship with the material, uncovering the Actor you want to be—and the Actor you genuinely are.

The Classes are taught in English, but you can also work on both text and scene work in your first language as a springboard into working in English.
